Why I’ll Never Apologize for Feeling Everything Deeply | Coping with Sadness

Updated: Jul 21

Because sadness isn’t weakness — it’s proof you cared.

We all have days when sadness shows up uninvited.

You can’t shut the door on it, nor can you fight it off with armor. Sometimes, it walks right through the window like a silent storm.

I’ve learned — the hard way — that sadness isn’t something you escape. It’s something you sit with.

There are things I wish I never learned…

Like holding back tears when everything inside me was breaking.

Like pretending I was okay because the world didn’t want my sadness.

I’ve often been asked, “Why do you always write about sad things?”

I never know how to answer. Am I amplifying emotions — or is the world too blind to feel them?

The truth is, I’m an empath. I feel it all. I don’t know how to hold relationships with cold hands; I’ve always held them warm.

So yes, it hurts.

It hurts when friends drift apart.

When college ends.

When family bonds change.

When stray animals cross your path at night with pleading eyes.

When songs tell your story a little too well.

When love fades…

And when words stay unsaid.

Sadness shows us where love once lived. And coping with sadness reminds us of everything we loved. It reminds us what truly mattered. It’s the only emotion that walks in barefaced — no pretence.

For a long time, I believed there was something beautiful about sadness.

Now I know — sadness isn’t beautiful.

But it is real.

It’s not something you need to fix or push away.

It’s something you give space to — so it doesn’t take yours.

I’ve learned to stop apologising for feeling deeply.

I’ve learned to stop rushing to “get over it.”

I’ve learned that you don’t have to bleed for people to know you’re hurting.

I’ve made peace with sadness. I let it sit with me. Sometimes, I even create with it.

But I no longer let it define me.

Because I believe…

There’s nothing poetic about a soul that only sees the grave and not the flowers.
